Separate from the main DMAs categories, the Sugar Art of the Year and the Beginner Sugar Art of the Year categories are our competition categories.
Designed to showcase the very best of our community - from bold, imaginative designs to incredible displays of skill and creativity, these competition categories allow you to enter any cake, cookie, sugar flower or piece of sugar art created by you in the past 12 months for a chance to win your very own award and certificate.
Every entry is judged with care, celebrated for its individuality, and given the platform it deserves. Winners not only take home a prestigious DMAs trophy and official certificate, but in selected categories they'll also receive exclusive prizes from our generous sponsors.
We encourage you to enter more than one piece of work - after all why limit your creativity to just a single showstopper? The more entries you submit, the more chances you have to impress our esteemed panel of world renowned judges and claim your place among the winners.

Editor's Choice Award
New for 2025! This year we are adding something extra special! Alongside the main judging of our competition categories, D'licious Magazine Editor Kelly Jane, will personally select her favourites from both the Sugar Art of the Year and Beginner Sugar Art of the Year categories.
Editor's Choice certificates will be given for the following in both competition categories:
- Best Edible Painting
- Best Edible Sculpting
- Best Cake
- Best Cookie Art
- Best Sugar Modelling
- Best Sugar Flowers
- Best Cupcakes
- Best Royal Icing
- Best Sugar Art
One overall Editor's Choice Champion from each competition category will also receive a bespoke trophy.
As if you needed any more reasons to enter... Serdar Yener will be offering three annual Yeners Way subscriptions for the Beginner Sugar Art of the Year category. One for the overall winner and two to entrants he personally selects based on their work and potential.

OPEN TO ALL FROM ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD
ENTER AS MANY PIECES AS YOU LIKE (ONE ENTRY PER PIECE)

RULES:

Only pieces made between 15th November 2024 and 15th November 2025 will be accepted.

Pieces submitted must be your own work and must be covered or finished in edible materials. Decorative pieces and covered dummies are allowed.

Photographs with logos will NOT be accepted.

You may enter pieces that were created for customer orders, showpieces, collaborations, other online or in-person competitions.

Collaborative pieces are allowed but full names of all persons involved (maximum of 3) must be listed on the entry. This CANNOT be changed later.
TO COMPLETE YOUR ENTRY:

Failure to provide the above may result in your entry not being considered.
Note: If you have been in business for less than 3 years or are new to competitions, you may wish to enter the Beginner Sugar Art of the Year category instead.

Beginner Sugar Art of the Year
OPEN TO ALL FROM ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD
YOU MUST BE A BEGINNER TO ENTER THIS CATEGORY (see below for Beginners definition)

Collaborative pieces are allowed but full names of all persons involved (maximum of 3) must be listed on the entry and all persons involved must be beginners (see definition below for what classes as a beginner).

Confirmation that you are a Beginner and have not entered this category before.
DEFINITION OF A BEGINNER:
For this competition, beginners are classed as someone who has been in the industry for less than 3 years OR someone who is new to competitions this year. If you do not meet this criteria please enter the main Sugar Art of the Year category instead. Please note we reserve the right to move your entry to the main Sugar Art of the Year category if we believe you do not fit the criteria outlined. If you are in any doubt please see the FAQ below or email us.

I have been in the industry for less than 3 years but have entered competitions prior to this year, can I still enter this category?
YES
I have never entered a competition before / this year is my first time entering a competition but I have been in the industry for more than 3 years, can I still enter this category?
YES
I have been making cakes/sugar art for more than 3 years but have been in business for less than 3 years - can I enter this category?
Whether you have been in business or just doing cakes as a hobby/for fun, you have been in the industry for more than 3 years so you can only enter this category if you are new to competitions this year.
I have been in the industry for less than 3 years and I am new to competitions but I entered this category previously, can I enter again.
NO - you can only enter this category for one year. If you have entered it before you must now enter the main Sugar Art of the Year category.
