Bumping Into a Celeb in Morocco - Day Eight in Marrakesh
After seven days of early wake up calls and days filled with adrenaline-packed adventure, something miraculous happened on day eight - a lie-in. Finally! In fact, some members of the group slept so well that they completely missed breakfast. And considering how incredible the breakfast at the hotel was, that's saying something!
The final day of our incredible trip was deliberately left free for everyone to spend however they wanted. By now we'd become such a close group that nobody felt any pressure to stick together every minute of the day. Instead, we split off into smaller groups to enjoy our last few hours in Marrakesh. Ele, Jo and Kerry headed back into the city to squeeze in a little more sightseeing and souvenir shopping. They explored the souks, watched the famous snake charmers and monkey handlers in the main square and even had a completely unexpected celebrity encounter.
They met Fred from First Dates! Of course, we were all super jealous that we didn't tag along on the shopping expedition when we found that out!
Meanwhile, the rest of the group spent the day relaxing by the pool. I think it had been earned after the action-packed week we had. Eventually we all drifted back together and enjoyed hanging out one last time as a big group.
Before long it was time to head back to our rooms and pack our cases. Nobody wanted to, but we checked out and made our way to the airport - definitely not coming close to missing our flight at all. Promise! Somehow, despite the mild airport excitement, we all made it safely onto the plane and began the journey home.
On the plane home, I found myself thinking about what had actually made this trip so special.
Yes, Morocco was incredible. The scenery was breathtaking, the excursions were amazing but, as corny as it sounds, the real magic wasn't the destination - it was the people.
A week earlier, many of us barely knew each other. Some people hadn't know anyone. Now it felt like we'd known each other for years. We had laughed together, supported each other, cheered each other on, travelled together, even got naked together for goodness sake. We had created memories that will stay with us forever and the friendships formed during this trip are what meant the most to me and what I think made it truly special.
So if you're one of the people who came on this first D'licious Tours trip - thank you. Thank you for trusting me, for not murdering me over the early starts and scary excursions. Thank you for all the fun, adventure, and laughter, for all the memories and for your friendship.
